What is this page about you might ask yourself? Or you could ask me. In either case its to keep a record of the people that "visit" us while fishing. We fish to relax and take a break, but for some reason people feel the need to chat with us. Is this a rule amongst fishing folk, that if you have a fishing rod its an open invitation to strike up a conversation? No matter how busy they are? Here are a few of our encounters so far. Fishermen Fan- We've started a fan club, apparently, had a guy approach us today from the shore, we were up to hips with waders, casually asked how fishing was and then told us we were "beautiful". Hopefully just a fan of fishing, not of us personally. I say it was Bud's friend from weymouth, but he disagrees. Boat People - Yep people who own boats to fish, not us of course, others. Why do they need to fish the shoreline from the boat right where the shore fishing guys fish? They got the entire lake? Isn't that why they got a boat? Thats why we got a boat (the Waverley). And do they really need to bring their boats in where the people are standing? Considering they got the entire shoreline? Unless they're using the people as some kind of marker to make sure they don't miss the land? Bud and I have been able to actually come ashore with our boat and not disrupt anyone thats fishing. How do we do this you may ask? We simply don't AIM FOR THEM, we find a piece of shoreline where THERE ARE NO PEOPLE and go there. Buds Non Fishing Pal - This has been our most common visitor, well Buds visitor actually, shows up every so often, no actual schedule sometimes in the morning or maybe afternoon, either at the boat launch or the sandy beach. Talks with Bud about whats biting and how we're doing then wanders away. No sign of him being a fisherman himself. We figure he's either curious as to conditions or just looking for someone to talk to. Guy on the Bridge - so far the most aggravating of all our visitors but he only came by once (so far) came up and started chatting about whether we were catching anything etc...then got very hands on. I had just finished rigging bait etc and he grabbed my line and started checking out what was on the end of my line. I mean its one thing to talk to someone but to start grabbing their line etc, is a bit over the line, don't you agree. I did make it clear he shouldn't be doing that and he eventually went away. The Baby Carriage Guy - This guy still scares me. I showed up on sandy beach by myself for some late afternoon fishing, and went to our usual sport, far left side, and started fishing, at the other end of the beach saw a gentleman (who looked normal, ha) fishing, but he had a little stroller with him in which he packed all his fishing gear, and I was thinking it was a great idea so he wouldn't have to carry it all, just push it along. Shows you how wrong a fella can be. He eventually wandered over to chat, and I mentioned that the baby carriage was a great idea for carrying stuff. At which point he corrected me and told me (get this) that his girlfriend had aborted their baby and he was pretty distraught over it so he was going to keep the carriage with him until she and him actually had a baby. Needless to say at this point I really wanted the conversation to end, which fortunately it did, he went back to his end of the beach, which we should probably call the "crazy people end" and continued fishing. Short time later I landed a good size bass, probably one of the biggest I'd caught yet, bout the length of my forearm, and of course there was no one there to show it off to, except of course the guy with his carriage, so like I said there was no one to show it off to, so I called my wife to tell her, cuz you gotta tell someone. I also told her about the guy with the baby carriage. She had much more rational response to this gentleman then I did, "Jerry, leave the beach, NOW, pack your stuff and head home," which made a lot of sense so that ended that day of fishing. Big Guy in the Raft - this guy is more tragic then annoying.
Apparently he comes to the pond via TAXI CAB and unloads his stuff,
pumps up his raft and off he goes for the day, Spends hours out fishing,
and when he's done calls the TAXI on his cell phone, and loads up and
off he goes. Not that bad right? But the part that gets to me is when
his is coming to shore, he usually comes right up to where we're fishing,
(this is back when all we did was fish from the beach) and runs aground
sorta and then his method of leaving the raft is as follows. Lay back
a little bit and then ROLL OVER INTO THE WATER, get up and drag the
raft to shore. It seems to work for him, but there has to be a better
way, eventually he drags all his stuff up onto the beach and we're allowed
to resume our fishing.
