- When landing fish WITHOUT
a net, we've found that its a good idea to grab the fish itself (opposed
to pulling it out of the water by the line) when landing it to get
the hook out. Their weight could snap the line (and has) once out
of the water, since they no longer have any buoyancy.
- When fishing with light
weight plastic and no weight, if you feel the need to speed up the
sinking process just drive a small headless nail into the plastic
itself up where the hook goes in. It helps to sink it a little faster
and doesn't disrupt the Action all that much.
- I carry enough stuff with
me when I'm fishing that I don't need the extra aggravation of a ruler
or tape measure, so what I've done is measure the spread hand from
pinkie finger to thumb approximately 8" and now can easily get
an estimate as to size of fish, well at least if its 8 inches or more,
i.e. A Real Fish. Not sure how many inches you add to the final size
for the story telling version.
- When
fishing with shiners, we've found that if you replenish or replace
the existing water with the pond or lake that you're fishing at, when
you get there the shiners seem to live a lot longer.
- To increase casting distance,
apply car wax to the insides of your line guides. After you buff them,
they'll be as slick as ice and your line will slide through much easier.
